Industrial resumé
I have worked in the digital motion picture industry for over 10 years now. I started out working for Cinesite® (Europe) as a consultant software engineer on the Cineon® compositing system. I then moved into vfx production as a senior research and development engineer, developing many proprietary software tools and digital workflow solutions. One of my final tasks at Cinesite® was to develop tools and work flows for Europe’s first digital intermediate process (DI), successful used on the HBO® series “Band of Brothers”.
After working for Cinesite® for five years I departed and moved to California to work for Industrial Light and Magic® as a senior research engineer. My main responsibilities included, but were not limited to: all aspects of colour management, production scanning & recording, and bulk image workflow solutions. I worked closely on many digitally acquired and finished movies including both Star Wars® Episodes two and three.
My final US move was to Los Angeles to work for Filmlight® as head of engineering in their new US office. I was responsible for all aspects of engineering, with particular attention to advance colour management for digital intermediate systems (DI). During my two years at Filmlight® I aided many companies to adopt the Truelight® colour management system, including: Pacific Title, Digital Domain, Ascent Media, Company3, Warner Brothers, Foto Kem, Modern Video Film and Universal Studios.
After almost six years in the US my family and I returned to the UK. I have now established VFX-Consulting to provide consultancy and engineering services to the digital film making community. It is one of our aims to de-mystify the processes of DI and VFX and make the techniques and tools more accessible to the wider community.
